Joel Stiras
Joel grew up in Brooklyn Park and obtained a degree in Aquatic Biology from Bemidji State University. After graduation, Joel gained fisheries management experience in Florida, Indiana, and North Carolina before returning home to work for the MN DNR as an Aquatic Plant Management Specialist. He has been with the MN DNR for almost 17 years and has been the Metro River Specialist in St. Paul for 13 years. Joel’s current duties are managing the fisheries in Pool 2 of the Mississippi River and the lower St. Croix River. This involves fish sampling surveys, environmental review, commercial fishing oversight, coordination with state and federal agencies, and overseeing a fish telemetry project tracking a dozen fish species in the major metro rivers.
